Notwithstanding their day-to-day duties and chores, they dream, love, write poems. In the solitude of the new day or in the hoarse silence of the night, they curl up and put down strings of world to make up poems. Poetry is a mission for them. These are the girls and women from the "Vesa Paspaleeva" Ladies’ Poetical Studio at the Bratstvo Community Centre.

Once upon a time, in the distant pagan times, people believed in god Perun, who lived in most beautiful mountain. But when Christianity was adopted everywhere, god Perun, retreated slowly to the highest point on the mountain, which was named after him - Perin.

The most valuable natural resource of Kyustendil is the warm mineral water. An old legend has it that one night the warm mineral water in the foothills of the Hisarlaka mount gushed out from hundreds of geysers – they were so numerous that they threatened to flood the town and drown its residents.

The founders of today’s town of Kyustendil were Thracians from the Denteleti tribe. In 181 BC the settlements of the Denteli people were ravaged by the troops of Philip V of Macedonia.

About five hundred meters away from the village of Tavalichevo, in the Manastiro locality, under a centuries old Oak there is a cross dug into the ground. There used to be a monastery on that spot called Holy Mother of God and the local community gathered for service there.

According to one of the legends, once upon a time the parents of a boy from the village of Kolibite (Cottages) got him a bride from the nearest village of Stob. At that time would-be-brides kept their faces covered and nobody could see whether they were pretty or ugly until the day of the wedding. The groom was the first to unveil the bride and see her face. However, as the wedding procession was moving down the road, a mountain wind blew, lifted the red veil of the bride and uncovered her face.

Each summer the girls from Gyueshevo, lead by people from Dragoman, also called “Karamari”, set off to Ovcho Pole in groups and there they harvested wheat to earn some money.

Krali Marko was a skillful and brave man who had powers that were unique and unheard of. He was known as the strongest man on Bulgarian territory. People admired him. He frequently overpowered wild beasts, fought bravely with rapists and thieves. He stood for justice.

There was a girl of unearthly beauty and power in Kashina. Her name was Kanta. She was proud and inaccessible to the bachelors of Kashina, and she kept waiting for a person from a remote and rich land. Two dragons noticed the beauty of Kanta from their thrones in the inaccessible mountains: the Pirin Dragon from Demikarpia and the Belasitsa Dragon from Lopovo.

According to the legend of the Seven Rila Lakes thousands of years ago, when the planet Earth was still uninhabited by the modern people, a couple of giants lived in the Rila Mountain. They loved each other dearly and cherished the beauty and comfort of their home. It was so attractive, sunny, warm and cozy that every living creature would be captivated by it, and the love the giants had was celebrated by all elements of nature and by the whole world.

The songbook is part of the “Folklore and Toursim in the Sapareva Banya Region” project, implemented by “Prosveten Lach” Community Center by a group of young people from Sapareva Banya and the Netherlands.

The Vram peak

The Vram peak rises over the village of Korkina some 12 km away from the community center of Bobov Dol. The locality of the same name around the peak has an interesting story. It is a known fact that this was the area of the summer residence of King Samuil.

A long time ago, according to the people from the village of Gorni Pasarel, which was later flooded by the Iskar damn, Rila Mountain was a woman. Her name was Rilka. She married a man from the higher lands against the will of her parents. The man was called Pirin. Rilka's parents did not want to give their only daughter to Pirin, because they knew nothing about him: where he came from, who his parents were, and how the young couple would make their living.

The locality of Coce Stone (Cocev Kamen) is 25 km on the west from Kratovo, nearby the village Shopsko Rudari. It is believed that this was neolith settlement where inhabitants were hunters and farmers. The rock itself represents spiritual shrine, which can be seen today by numerous remains as well as the objects found nearby.

Berovo is small city in the East part of Republic of Macedonia, with population of 7.002 according to the 2002 census. Located in the Malesevo basin on far north branches of the Malesevo mountains on both sides of Bregalnica River. Berobo covers area of 224 ha and has moderate continental climate.

Kalata is the only island in the accumulation Kalimanci. At only 4 km from the Makedonska Kamenica, lie the remains of the Late Antique city is submerged in water. Kalata is abbreviation from The city of tin. From this place, in the past, people drew gold and tin. The highest point of the former Tin city is 200 meters from the bottom of Kalimanska River. The road Via Egnatia passed here.
